Do not abandon the original booking immediately after missing a train. 12306 distinguishes same-day and later-date changes made before midnight on the departure day. Check the actual order before rearranging transfers and reservations.
Open the order and use official help
12306 says a change after departure but before midnight to another train that day carries no change fee; a later travel date can incur a change fee. Success still depends on ticket type, order status and availability.
Check the change option in 12306. If it is unavailable or document verification is difficult, take your booking document and order number to the station service counter. Avoid relying on outdated 2015 FAQs or paying anyone promising to bypass identity checks.
Compare the actual replacement before paying
As a planning suggestion, compare remaining trains that day with a next-day journey and any overnight stay. Check the new date, departure and arrival stations, class, fare difference and displayed fees. No change fee does not mean no fare difference.
Ask about the replacement ticket’s refund and change conditions, especially after the original departure. A waitlist is not a ticket. Confirm transport before cancelling accommodation you may still need or purchasing another non-refundable activity; no specific service or refund is guaranteed here.
Update pickup and appointments
Tell the driver, hotel and studio your confirmed new train or that the arrangement is still pending. Avoid promising an arrival time while waiting for a seat. Retain their responses about waiting, overtime and cancellation costs.
Prepare a short note with your passport name, order number, original train and requested new date if communication is difficult. A guide can assist communication but cannot guarantee a change or alter railway rules.
