Not every souvenir needs collector-level treatment. Choose by cultural story, original maker work or daily use, then keep receipts, packing and shipping details.

Three goals, three channels

Museum shops suit collection stories, licensed characters and portable gifts. Maker markets suit original work and direct process conversations. Tableware centers suit cups, plates, quantity and repeat orders. A city tourism event displayed museum products, attractions and travel services together, reflecting their different roles.

Stock, price and opening must still be checked at the seller.

Leave a paper trail

Confirm maker or brand, material, size, quantity, unit price, defects, food-contact use and reordering. Request a list and formal receipt for valuable pieces. An oral story is not authentication or proof of age.

Ask before photographing close-up designs or a workbench, and do not copy a maker's pattern.

Carry or ship

Separate small pieces and protect handles, spouts, lids and narrow necks. Before international shipping, ask the carrier about declaration, insurance, duties, breakage and destination restrictions; retain packing photographs.

A private car reduces transfers and a multilingual guide may assist communication, but authentication, customs and insurance belong to the relevant institutions.
